Northport Police Report: Hot for Hot Dogs

Incidents, Oct. 19-23.

LONG ISLAND, NY -- The following was taken from the Northport Police Department crime blotter.

  • Someone reportedly broke into the concession stand at Steers Park on Oct. 20 by kicking in the window, "then did in fact cook and eat hot dogs" and took some candy.
  • A woman on Highland Avenue told police that a suspicious bag of candy with the word "boo" written across it was left at her front door by an unknown person on Oct. 22. She suspects her ex-husband of leaving the candy both this year and last.
  • A Woodbine Avenue woman told police on Oct. 22 that she suspected someone of tampering with the brakes on her car, saying it felt like "there was a block on them." She thinks an unknown person had caused this as she has had numerous car issues in the last few weeks. The officer started her car and didn't notice anything unusual about the brakes, but noted that the car was difficult to start with a noticeably rough idle. He suggested that maybe it was merely age and time that were causing the automotive issues.
