Northport Police Report: Hitchhiking Under the Influence; Harassing the Elderly

Incidents and arrests, Jan. 25-31.

The following arrests and incidents were taken from the blotter. Where an arrest is mentioned, all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. An arrest is only an accusation.

  • Police were responding to a report of a suspicious person on Jan. 26 when they found that John Henrikse, 39, of Northport had an outstanding village court warrant under an alias. Henrikse was arrested on the porch of his Seaview Terrace residence, processed, and released on $60 cash bail.
  • Ashley Tinker, 23, of East Northport surrendered herself at the Northport Police Headquarters on Jan. 30 for an active Northport Village Court warrant. She was processed and released to the custody of the court pending arraignment.
  • Wayne Anderson, 38, of East Northport was arrested on Feb. 1 after police found him hitchhiking in the middle of the road, seemingly under the influence of a substance other than alcohol. A search revealed that he was in possession of seven different types of prescription medication, having a prescription for only two kinds at the time of the search.
  • A woman reported her pocketbook stolen from her car parked in the shopping center on Fort Salonga Road on Jan. 25.
  • A man reported that aluminum scraps he intended to sell as salvage were stolen from Vail Street on Jan. 25.
  • Police responded to a report of a man standing by a woman's car on Fort Salonga Road late at night on Jan. 26 and then getting into the driver seat. The woman told the man to get out of the car, he then got out and left on foot. Police interviewed the man who stated that he thought it was his landlord's car and that's why he got in. He stated that when he realized his mistake he got out. The woman did not wish to pursue the matter further and the man was admonished regarding his actions and was also advised of the "incredulous nature" of his statement.
  • Two boys age 12 and 14 were playing on the pump station outlet structure on Beach Ave. the morning of Jan. 28. Police told them not play on the structure and then told their grandfather about the situation.
  • Someone egged a house on Ocean Avenue on Jan. 28.
  • Police responded to a report of kids in a Woddbine Avenue business possibly trying to gain access to the roof on Jan. 28. Upon arrival, the teens were located within the lobby area sitting on a bench. They said they were cold and looking for a place to warm up and that they had in the past gone on the roof to shoot short movies.The police officer admonished the teens about their behavior and advised them to ask permission from the business owner if they wished to use his property.
  • Police found an intoxicated young woman walking down Main Street late at night on Jan. 28 without shoes or warm clothes. Several attempts to attain her identity were to no avail. As the subject was without warm clothing, and had no shoes, she was transported to Northport Police Headquarters where her parents were called and requested to respond to pick her up.
  • A broken desk drawer with personal receipts and information inside was scattered along the roadway on Main Street on Jan. 29.
  • An unknown person reportedly went through the glove compartment of a man's car, as well as his daughter’s car, on Waterside Avenue during the night of Jan. 30 but did not take anything.
  • Three 10-year old boys were reportedly harassing an elderly man on Oak Street on Jan. 31. The complainant told the police that the elderly man left the area and seemed offended by what he saw. The kids had already left by the time the police arrived.
  • Northport police assisted in responding to a report of someone driving their motorcycle into Stop and Shop on 25A late on Jan. 31. though no bike and no rider were found upon their arrival.
