Northport Police Report: Hauppauge Man Arrested for Grand Larceny

Arrests and incidents, March 17-22.

The following was taken from the blotter. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Peter Panagatos, 50, of Hauppauge was arrested on March 19 and charged with fourth degree grand larceny after he allegedly stole $3,000 from an area business on Feb. 27. Panagatos, reportedly an employee of the business, turned himself into police headquarters after the employer produced security camera footage of him taking a cash bag outside to a walk-in box, then exiting the box without the cash bag. He was arraigned at Northport Village Court on March 19.
  • Imelda Moreno, 24, of Huntington Station surrendered herself on an active Northport Village Justice Court Warrant #02-12, failure to appear, on March 19. She was processed and released to the court which was in session.
  • School security was notified after police discovered a cleared out area with a couch in the woods near Laurel Avenue school on March 15.
  • A James Street man complained that crews working on his neighbor's property drove over his lawn on March 17 and created a sunken area which he feared might damage two nearby trees. The neighbor said that he would regrade the property when the construction was completed and that erect a temporary construction fence in order to keep all of his employees and sub-contractors off of the man's property.
  • Someone reported a group of kids fighting around Constitution Square on March 17. The group had dispersed by the time police arrived.
  • Police responded to a report of a female screaming on Fort Salonga Road around 11:39 p.m. on March 22. Officers remained until sufficient Suffolk County Police units arrived.
