Northport Police Report: English Muffin Thief Strikes

Incidents and arrests reported between April 16 and 22.

The following was taken from the Northport Police Department crime blotter. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until, and if, proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Police responded to the report of a possible residential burglary on Woodbine Avenue on April 16. The complainant said that, while she was out, someone tampered with her door lock, entered her premise and stole two packs of Thomas' English muffins from a black duffel bag. The police officer did not observe any damage to the lock. A check of the lock revealed it properly installed, albeit in a slightly larger than necessary hole. The complainant stated that this was not the case earlier that day. The complainant also stated that the door was locked when she returned home.
  • Vincent Dallessa, 77, of Islip was arrested on April 19 and charged with second degree menacing and criminal possession of a weapon after he allegedly pointed a gun at another driver during a road rage incident on Sunken Meadow Parkway. Northport Police located Dallessa's car on Main Street in Northport with two .22 caliber handguns inside. They arrested him and placed him in the custody of Suffolk County Police, in whose jurisdiction the incident took place.
  • A man approached a police officer on patrol along School Street saying he was "at the bar" and that his car was not where he had parked it. The man did not wish to make a report, but merely stated he would just take a cab home.
  • The tires on a School Street woman's two cars were slashed in front of her house on School Street on April 19.
  • An iPad 2, HP laptop, and a checkbook were stolen from a car on Woodbine Ave on April 16.
