Northport Police Report: DWI After Crash; Football-Sized Wasp Nest

Incidents and arrests, July 1-8.

The following was taken from the Northport Police blotter. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Kristine Vernola, 41, of East Northport was issued an appearance ticket in lieu of arrest on July 7 for multiple vehicle and traffic violations after being involved in a car accident on Scudder Avenue. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by drugs, failure to produce an insurance card, prohibited u-turn, and unreasonable speed.
  • Police responded to Laurel Avenue regarding a report of possible stalking on July 1 at 2:54 a.m. Upon arrival, they determined that the alleged offender had committed several crimes against the victim at Lorraine Court. The officer remained at the scene until Suffolk Police responded.
  • A man told police that two men were attempting to break into an apartment on July 1 around 9:30 p.m. The man said that he was returning from doing laundry across the street, when he noticed two unknown males in front of his apartment building looking into his windows and acting suspiciously. When he confronted the men they stated that they were looking for their uncle. He told them that he was going to call the police and they both ran and got into a four door sedan which drove away. The man was unable to provide any further details and was advised that if he saw the two subjects again, he should notify the police immediately.
  • A syringe was found on the on July 8 around 7:50 a.m.
  • A wasp nest about the size of a football was hanging low over the sidewalk on Laurel Avenue on July 8. The highway department placed barricades around it until it could be safely removed.
