Northport Police Report: Capsized Boat, Loud Party

Some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently.

Northport Police responded to a report of a capsized sailboat with two people in the water on July 1 at 6:20 p.m. Police Officers Bruen and Gigante via the Northport Police boat assisted the two out of the water and uprighted the sailboat.  Also on the scene were the Northport Fire Department as well as the Huntington Harbor Master were on scene as well.

Here are some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently. None of the defendants has been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed below. All complaints in the report are only alleged crimes under local investigation.

Police received a report of a smashed mailbox on June 30 at 3:17 p.m. on Northwest Drive.

Police received a complaint on June 30 at 4:21 p.m.  that a man who was legally evicted from a Bayview Ave building continues to enter the building. A trespass affidavit was served.

A man was arrested on Laurel Avenue for violating an order of protection on June 30 at 7:08 p.m.

A St. James man, who was stopped for passing a steady red light, was arrested for driving without an interlock device. on June 30 at 10:46 p.m. on Fort Salonga Road.

A Northport was arrested for cocaine possession and for speeding on July 1 at 1:29 a.m. on Waterside Avenue.

Police responded to a report about a stolen bird cage and flag from a Hill Street residence on July 1 at 7:38 p.m.

A man surrendered his Remington 12 gauge shotgun for safekeeping as directed by NYPD Police Applicant requirements on July 2 at 8:25 a.m.

A defendant was issued a field appearance ticket in lieu of arrest for unlawful possession of marijuana on July 2 at 5:53 p.m. on Main Street.

A defendant was arrested for third-degree criminal trespass on Bayview Avenue on July 3 at 12:41 a.m.

A defendant was arrested for third degree criminal trespass on Annetta Avenue on July 3 at 12:56 a.m.

A boat was illegally docked at the Loading/Unloading float at Northport Village Dock on July 3 at 11:20 a.m. The operator was issued a ticket.

Police received a report of petit larceny on Fort Salonga Road on July 3 at 2:20 p.m.

Police responded to a Main Street address on July 3 at 4:30 p.m. for a report of a carbon monoxide alarm activation.  Police interviewed the tenant who said the alarm was due to a malfunction caused by low batteries.  Northport Fire Department arrived and performed a test for carbon monoxide in the residence yielding negative results.

A defendant was arrested on July 4 at 11:10 p.m. on Laurel Avenue for unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawfully dealing with fireworks.

Police, while investigating a loud party on Cherry Street on July 5 at 12:25 a.m., discovered that a male had multiple New York State driver licenses. He was “unable to provide even a remotely feasible explanation of these items,” according to a police report. The licenses were confiscated and returned by mail to the Department of Motor Vehicles. No other details were immediately available.

Police received a report from a man at a Main Street restaurant who said he fired a former worker who returned on July 5 at 12:28 p.m. and threatened to beat up the others from the kitchen if he sees them again, and then left. Police found the subject and advised him that he was no longer welcome at the restaurant.

Police responded to report of barking dog on Maple Avenue on July 6 at 3:54 a.m. Police located the home with the dog, but say they were unable to reach the residents after numerous attempts at knocking and by phone. A warning citation was left in the mailbox.

Police observed a vessel needing assistance on July 6 at 4:27 p.m. The owner said his steering was no longer functioning. The marine unit towed the vessel to its mooring.

An iPod was found in the women’s bathroom in Village Park and turned into police headquarters on July 6 at 5:52 p.m. The iPod is being held at the desk in the hopes that the owner contacts police.
