Northport Police Report: Busy Week at The Harbor

Here are some of the incidents Northport Police responded to recently, including several incidents involving the harbor. None of the defendants has been convicted of a crime, but were arrested for the charges listed below. All complaints in the report are only alleged crimes under local investigation.

On June 23 at 11:45 p.m., a woman reported her pocket stolen on Laurel Avenue.

On June 23 at 2:10 p.m., boat owners on Porpoise Ct. reported that their vessels were broken into and 20 liquor bottles and a case of beer, approximately valued at $900, were stolen. The case was referred to a Northport detective.

On June 23 at 8:06 p.m., a Northport man on Church Street was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

On June 24 at 11:13 a.m., police responded to a call about a trapped baby racoon at a home on Burr Ave. The officer was able to free the animal.

On June 24 at 1:20 p.m. defendant was arrested for petit larceny on Nostrand Avenue.

On June 24 at 9:30 p.m., a Central Islip residnet was observed lighting a firecracker in a moving vehicle on Fort Salonga Road and was given an appearance ticket in lieu of arrest. No other details were immediately available.

On June 25 at 7:14 p.m., a Farmingville man was arrested on Soundview Avenue for fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

On June 26 at 1:14 a.m., police responded to Franklin Street about a report of a verbal dispute and breaking glass. A man was arrested for third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental administration and harassment.

On June 26 at 3:22 p.m., the registered owner of a 2005 Honda responded to a report of license-plate theft. Police entered the plate into EJustice.

On June 26 at 5:24 p.m., a parent and child reported to police that the child had been bitten by a dog. The child said that while walking home, a man was walking his dog and the dog jumped up and bit the child’s left arm. The bite did not appear to be serious but was checked out by Northport Fire and Rescue. The parent and child subsequently refused to be transported to the hospital and declined further medical treatment.

On June 27 at 11:50 a.m., while on patrol in Northport Harbor, police observed a vessel that was not displaying its registration numbers. An investigation revealed that person operating the vessel was unable to produce a valid registration for it. The operator was cited for both violations.

On June 27, at 2:10 p.m., while on patrol in Northport Harbor, police observed a vessel with a passenger under 12 years of age who was not wearing a personal flotation device. The operator was issued a ticket.

On June 28 at 7:33 a.m. police responded to report at Constitution Square about vehicles parked in the area restricted for a farmers’ market. Police located the vehicles owners, who were issued summonses.

On June 28 at 3:35 p.m., while on patrol in Northport Harbor, police observed a kayaker who did not have a personal flotation device, or PFD, onboard. The kayaker was issued a ticket and given a PFD to continue his voyage. The kayaker later returned the loaner PFD.

On June 29 at 2:31 p.m., while on patrol in Northport Harbor, police observed a vessel that had not displayed its registration numbers.The vessel operator was cited for the infraction.

On June 30, at 12:31 a.m. police responded to a complaint about a barking dog on Scudder Avenue. Police found the dog in the home’s backyard, and the property owner agreed to take the dog in for the night.
