Northport Police Blotter: Suspicious People, Loud Parties and Youths on Roofs

A roundup of incidents from the Northport police blotter for the week of Dec. 2 through 9.

Police received a call Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7:43 p.m. to report a skateboarder dressed all in black in the middle of Waterside Avenue. Police were unable to locate the skateboarder.

Police responded to the at 330 Main St. Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6:57 p.m. after an audible fire alarm was reported. Upon arrival, police observed a slight smoke condition in the steeple area. The responded and checked the building for immediate danger and determined the cause to be a faulty electrical outlet, which was then made safe.

A 24-year-old female Cherry Street resident called police Sunday, Dec. 5 at 6:12 p.m. to report a hooded male sitting on a bench at Gilbert Street. The caller said she felt the male had bad intentions. The male was gone upon police arrival.

A 59-year-old female Oak Street resident called police Sunday, Dec. 5 at 12:23 p.m. to report that a group of youths had been banging on her door the night before. Police advised her to call immediately if it happens again.

A 48-year-old Saltaire Place resident called police Sunday, Dec. 5 at 11:36 a.m. to report that someone had knocked over his mailbox and broke his mailbox stand.

A 48-year-old male Mariners Lane resident called police Sunday, Dec. 5 at 10:52 a.m. to report a suspicious group of males standing near their vehicles in the parking lot. The males and vehicles were gone upon police arrival.

A 64-year-old male Beach Avenue resident called police Sunday, Dec. 5 at 10:25 a.m. to report that someone was taking property from the former Delta Service Station at Route 25A and Woodbine Avenue. Police interviewed the man removing items who told them he was doing it at the request of the property owner and taking it to another station at 201 Depot Road in Huntington Station. The man identified himself with a New York State driver's license and police took several photos of the removed items.

A 65-year-old male Jay Court resident of Jay Court called police Saturday, Dec. 4 at 10:20 p.m. to report that someone had driven across his lawn striking two large decorative rocks in the process. One of the rocks was dragged approximately 20 feet east on Dogwood Road, causing damage to the rock. The complainant said he believes this was an intentional act by a person or persons with whom he has had recent problems. He said a neighbor who is selling his house might also have caused the new damage. The complainant had a verbal altercation with the neighbor's real-estate agent. The Jay Court resident said he had just repaired damage from a prior incident.

A Scudder Avenue resident called police Saturday, Dec. 4 at 9:30 p.m. to report someone knocking on her doors and windows. While en route, the caller attempted to cancel the call stating that the person knocking was her friend's mother and that there was no problem.

In an ongoing problem, an employee of on Main Street called police Saturday, Dec. 4 at 4:41 p.m. to report youths on the roof of the building. Upon arrival, police admonished and dispersed the youths.

A 54-year-old Maple Avenue female resident called police Saturday, Dec. 4 at 6:17 a.m. to report that she heard hammering and that her neighbor was doing construction on his house. Upon arrival, police found the area to be quiet. (Editor's Note: During the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., noise levels shall not exceed 70 decibels when measured at a distance of 400 feet from a construction site, according to the village code.)

The owner of on Fort Salonga Road called police Saturday Dec. 4 at 5:22 a.m. to report a burglary. Police arrived and found the front door having been pried open and the cash register missing. The owner stated that the register had $250 in it and the register itself was valued at $800. The department's detective will investigate further.

An anonymous call to police Saturday, Dec. 4 at 12:01 a.m. reported a loud party at Woodbine and Scudder avenues. Police responded and found the area to be quiet.

While on patrol Thursday, Dec. 2 at 8:10 p.m., a Northport police officer observed multiple subjects on the roof of King Kullen. The officer spoke with staff members of the grocery store and found that the people on the roof were cleaning up debris.

A 42-year-old Annetta Avenue female resident called police Thursday, Dec. 2 at 3:46p.m. to report that her daughter had told her someone was videotaping their property. Police were unable to contact the man, found later to be a 46-year-old Centerport male. He informed police that he was videotaping a construction worker who was on the Annetta Avenue property as he is scheduled to appear in civil court in a case with the worker.

A 27-year-old Scudder Avenue female resident called police Thursday, Dec. 2 at 1:23 p.m. to report that a 27-year-old Westbury female has been submitting credit card applications in her name. The Northport woman said that she was informed by a collection agency that she has incurred debts of $1,510 and $560. The incident was forwarded to the department's detective for follow-up investigation.

Police received a call Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 9:18 p.m. from a 58-year-old male Highland Avenue resident who reported a sick raccoon. Police found the raccoon, euthanised it and disposed of it.
