Northport Police Blotter: Stuck in the Mud, Pink Plaid Pocketbook Found, Estranged Couple Fights and More

A 17-year-old East Northport male was observed Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 6:58 p.m. driving a 1998 Land Rover on the snow-covered soccer fields in Steers Park in the Pit. The 17-year-old had gotten the vehicle, registered to Billy James and Cindy Kokell, both of East Northport, stuck in the field. A group of people was attempting to help him shovel the truck out. Police did not find any significant damage to the field and issued the driver an appearance ticket in lieu of arrest for unauthorized use of village property.

A Lincoln Avenue, Northport, resident contacted police Monday, Jan 24 at 9:16 p.m. to report that someone had used her debit card to make an $89 purchase from H&A Designer Jewelry in Sayville. Someone had attempted to use the card numerous other times but the bank blocked those transactions. The Northport woman said that she had used the card at the Outback Steakhouse in Huntington and when she contacted the restaurant they acknowledged having other similar incidents with the sever who had waited on the Northport woman. The case is pending classification because Bank of America suffered the loss.

Erica Freeburg, 26, of Northport, surrendered herself to police Monday, Jan. 24 at 6:58 p.m. on an active warrant issued by Northport Village Justice Court for failure to pay a fine. She was arraigned by Judge Paul Senzer Monday night.

A 79-year-old Ocean Avenue man reported to police Monday, Jan. 24 at 6:58 p.m. that two tires on his green 2001 Honda had been deflated while it was parked on Main Street. The victim said that his wife had gone downtown to run some errands. When she returned to the vehicle, both front tires were flat. She drove the vehicle the short distance home and her husband refilled the tires. The village police detective will investigate.

A 48-year-old Essex Drive, Eaton’s Neck, reported Monday, Jan. 24 at 4:22 p.m. that a man wearing a jacket that read “Security” was asking people for money in the store in Northport. He was gone when police arrived.

Police found a child’s pink plaid pocketbook in front of the police station Monday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. The purse contained $.86, a pink hairband and five small rubber animals. The purse was placed in the property room.

Police were notified by the Monday, Jan. 24 at 5:19 p.m.  that there was a possible rekindling of a fire at the Mateyunas home on Cairo Avenue that had been doused Sunday. Police stayed on the scene until the fire department extinguished a small fire.

Police received a call Sunday, Jan. 23 at 2:20 p.m. of two card parked illegally on Scudder Avenue in Northport. Police located the vehicles, a white 2008 Lincoln MKX registered to a Crestfield Place, Northport, resident, and a white 2003 Volvo S60 that is registered to a Valleyview Drive, Northport, resident, and issued tickets.

A 45-year-old Rocky Point woman called police Sunday, Jan 23 at 2:40 p.m. to complain about the living conditions in which her 14-year-old daughter is living in with her husband in their apartment on  Scudder Avenue.  The mother requested that police  enter the property to document. The apartment was vacant when police arrived. Police contacted the father who said he would contact police as soon as he arrived back home.

William Burns, owner of , reported Sunday, Jan. 23 at 10:58 a.m. that a burglary had taken place at his business sometime between Saturday t 9 p.m. and Sunday morning. Police responded and found that someone did enter the employee-only entrance of the office. Once inside, he or she ransacked the offices containing business paperwork and files. A camera and computer bag were taken but a television, computer and office checks were not disturbed.  The village detective investigated; the scene was dusted for fingerprints with negative results.  

A couple who is no longer together but still lives together on Sea Cove Road were involved in a verbal dispute Saturday, Jan. 22 at 7:21 p.m. The current living arrangement resulted in the argument about who should move out. No violations of the law were reported.

A 65-year-old Franklin Street, Northport, woman called police Friday, Jan. 21 at 10:30 a.m. to report that her neighbor was shoveling snow on to her driveway. Police arrived but didn’t see snow being thrown on to her driveway. No police action was necessary.

A Huntington man driving a 2010 Nissan truck on North Harbor Road in Asharoken became stuck Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 3:19 p.m.
