Northport Police Blotter: Church Bells Gone Wild, Dinghies Missing, Youths Fighting and More

Incidents and arrests taken from the files of the Northport Police Department.

The following information was supplied by the Northport Police Department.  A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate a conviction.

Police responded to the Laurel Avenue School May 18 at 12:12 p.m. to investigate the report of an 89-year-old Highland Avenue male who fainted. East Rescue transported aided to Huntington Hospital.

A 45-year-old Lisa Drive, Northport man came to headquarters Wednesday, May 18 at 2:11 p.m. to report a lost or stolen dinghy. The man rents a dingy rack, position # 5, from the Incorporated Village of Northport at the facility. The dingy, a Walker Bay, with the number “1106” scribed on the transom, was placed in the rack about a month ago, and it was recently noticed to be missing. Event forwarded to Harbor Master for Anthony Graziano for follow up.

A 42-year-old Church Street woman reported Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. that a green Jeep was driving slowly by her residence watching her children play. Police ran the license plate number provided to them by the woman and it came back to a white Mitsubishi Eclipse. Police did not locate the green Jeep.

A 39-year-old Woodbine Avenue man reported that some time between Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m. and Monday, May 16 at noon his canoe went missing from Scudder Park. The man said that he left his canoe near the boat ramp unattended and unsecured since last Wednesday, using it periodically with his family until Saturday. When his wife and children went to use it today, it was nowhere to be found. Police searched the area, but were unable to find the canoe or ascertain whether or not the boat was taken or was washed out into the harbor due to the recent high tides. The man requested this report taken for documentation purposes at this time.

Police responded to 155 Bayview Avenue Monday, May 16 for a report of a found yellow kayak near the caller’s property. Police were unable to retrieve the kayak. No further action at this time. Senior Harbor Master Graziano was notified.

A 45-year-old Nevada woman suffered a diabetic-related incident Sunday, May 15 while traveling in a motor vehicle at Maple Avenue and Main Street. Northport Fire Department administered glucose and the aided was given a Starburst fruit chew prior to the arrival of emergency services. Her glucose readings registered normal and she refused further medical intervention.

Police received a report Sunday, May 15 at 3:55 p.m. of a child riding a motorcycle near Ocean Avenue and Oak Street. Police canvassed the surrounding area but did not locate the child on the motorcycle.

Police observes two juveniles, one an Oxbow Court, East Northport 16-year-old and the other a Port Jefferson Station 16-year-old, parked at Scudder Park just after midnight Sunday, May 15 in a 1998 Ford Explorer after the park was closed. Police advised them they were in violation of the park curfew and warned and admonished the subjects in lieu of issuing them appearance tickets.

A 56-year-old Scudder Avenue, Northport man lost control of his 1992 Ford pickup truck while traveling north on Ocean Avenue Saturday, May 14 at 5:29 p.m.  and crashed into a decorative rock wall in front of numbers 86 and 88 Ocean Avenue in Northport. The vehicle caused damage to the multiple decorative rock walls and plants from both properties. Both property owners were notified of the damage.

A caller reported a group of youths bothering the animals at Saturday, My 14 at 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, the undersigned was unable to locate any youths.

While monitoring the park video cameras Friday, May 13 at 10:02, police observed a juvenile couple behind the construction fence on top of the bathrooms at Northport Village Park. Police responded and admonished the couple regarding climbing under the fence.

Police received an anonymous complaint Thursday, May 12 at 4:06 p.m. of an Asian male, 5'10", with black hair,a stocky build, wearing a tie-dye T-shirt, was approaching women in an inappropriate manner. Police located a man fitting the description, a 42-year-old Kings Park man,in municipal parking lot#1. The subject denied having any contact with any women and left the area in a 1997 gray Infiniti SUV.

A 34-year-old Nautilus Avenue, Northport woman came into police headquarters Thursday, May 12 at 2:34 p.m.to report a violation of an order of protection. Her husband, Gregory Greathouse, posted on his Facebook page that his marital status is "widower.” The complainant's attorney advised her to report the incident to this agency. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office advised that the incident did not rise to a level that violated the active order. No further action taken.

Police responded to Cherry Street in Northport Thursday at 4:07 a.m. after a caller reported a male and female yelling. Upon arrival, it was determined that the female, a 20-year-old without an address, was upset because she did not have a place to stay for the night. The man, 20, of Soper Avenue, said she could stay with him at his residence.

A 68-year-old Maple Avenue, Northport man reported to police Wednesday, May 11 that his granddaughter, of whom he has custody, went out at 7:30 p.m. the night before and did not return home. Police contacted the Attendance office, which reported that the granddaughter was in fact in school.

A Huntington woman came into police headquarters Tuesday, May 10 at 8:05 p.m. to report being followed by a 27-year-old Rockne Street, Huntington Station man from a store in Huntington Village to the rear of Northport Police Department. The man reportedly exited his vehicle and bang on the hood of the complainant's vehicle at East Main Street and Park Avenue, Huntington. Northport police advised the woman to follow-up with SCPD 2nd Precinct.

Police received a report Tuesday, May 10 at 6:28 p.m. of the church bells at ringing for over 20 minutes. Police spoke to Sister Eva who stated there was a mechanical problem and that a call was in for repair.

While on patrol Friday, May 6 at 9:01 p.m., police observed a large group of youths in the playground area of Village Park and after a few moments it became apparent that two or more youths were fighting. Police proceeded to break up the group and detain an individual who was obviously one of the combatants. A 15-year-old Pamela Lane, East Northport juvenile at the scene sustained minor injuries on his face while fighting with another unidentified youth. The juvenile’s father was notified and came to the scene. Northport Fire Department Rescue was notified and administered first aid at the scene. The juvenile’s father refused further treatment and left scene with juvenile.
