Update: Northport Chase Bank Robbed

Suffolk Police swarm Northport Village in intense manhunt for armed suspect.

A man in his 50s armed with a handgun robbed in Northport at approximately 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, Suffolk County Police said.

Police were seen canvassing Northport in cruisers and through the air after the Chase branch at 721 Fort Salonga Road was held up. Northport and Suffolk police personnel had a section of the CVS Plaza cordoned off while they investigated.

The armed man approached a teller and demanded cash, police said. The teller complied and the subject fled the scene on foot southbound through the parking lot.

Police are searching for a suspect described as a heavyset white male with gray hair and approximately 5 feet, 5 inches tall. He was wearing a blue baseball hat with writing on the front, sunglasses, an aqua-blue shirt with a logo over the left breast, blue jeans, white sneakers and carrying a black and blue backpack.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
