An early Tuesday morning Fort Salonga fire resulted in one man's death and destroyed a home, Suffolk police said.
A resident of Juliet Lane in Fort Salonga called 911 to report that a neighbor's home was on fire at 12:51 a.m.
When police and Northport Fire Department personnel arrived, they found the home at 11 Juliet Lane fully engulfed in flames. After making entrance into the home, Timothy Salsone, 51, was found on a bed in the master bedroom.
Salsone, a resident of the home, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
By 1:47 a.m. the fire was under control but the house was reduced to a front deck and an interior fireplace.
The house is owned by Alison Kokell, according to Town of Huntington records.
Northport firefighters were backed up by departments from East Northport, Centerport and Kings Park, according to a witness.
Investigators from Suffolk County Police Department's Crime Scene Section were at the location Tuesday morning sifting through the debris as was personnel from the county's fire marshal's office.
A spokesperson said that the department would issue a press release once they had spoken to the lieutenant in charge.
Northport Patch will continue to follow this story.
