Update: Helicopter Called in Following E. Northport Crash

Head-on collision on Larkfield Road sends one to hospital Tuesday.

Update, 5 p.m. Tuesday

A man was airlifted to Stony Brook Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a car accident on Larkfield Road in East Northport, according to East Northport Fire Department officials.

The man was driving northbound down Larkfield Road near Netcong Place by Walgreens when he was hit on the front passenger side by a woman driving an SUV in the southbound lane, according to a witness.

The witness, who did not wish to be identified, said she was standing outside near the scene when the accident occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m.

"She hit him and spun him around so he ended up facing southbound," the witness said. "His whole driver's side was smashed in, he was actually trapped in the vehicle, we couldn't get him out and he couldn't move. They had to open up everything to pull him out."

The witness said that the black SUV hit a sign and a parked car in the parking lot of a mechanic on the northbound side of Larkfield Road after colliding with the man's car.

East Northport Fire Department responded to the scene and cut the man out of the car. He was airlifted via Suffolk County Police helicopter because of the nature of the accident, although his injuries were not critical according to fire department authorities. The helicopter landed at Larkfield Road and Cedar Road.

The woman was not injured.
