The incident may have been spurred when police tried to serve the man with an order of protection in favor of someone else.

Original article: Suffolk police have closed Route 25A in Northport from the intersection of Laurel Avenue to Gilbert Street reportedly because of an emergency situation involving an upstairs residential tenant at 694 Fort Salonga Road.

The department's S.W.A.T. team is on the scene as is the Northport Police Department and Northport Fire Department.

Witnesses say that police went to the location late last night to serve a warrant to a male tenant. The man resisted and possibly has a gun, but police would not confirm that Wednesday morning.

A Suffolk police officer would say only that the road is closed off "for tactical reasons."
