Flames Engulf Centerport Home

60 firefighters extinguished a blaze in freezing temperatures Thursday.

Red flames billowed from a home on Harbor Park drive in Centerport Thursday as firefighters from five different departments worked to put out the blaze in freezing temperatures. 

Firefighters received the call for help at 2 p.m. Thursday and found heavy fire bursting out the skylights on the second floor of the home. Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack on the flames. Greenlawn, Northport, Halesite and East Northport fire departments also helped at the scene for additional equipment and personnel. All together, 60 firefighters worked to put our the blaze.

Standby coverage was provided by Huntington and Cold Spring Harbor Fire departments, as well.

The fire was put out in within an hour and a half. No injuries were reported.

Half of the home on the first and second floor was heavily damaged. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad and Huntington Town Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.
