Update: Fire Closes Woodbine

Northport Fire and Police departments respond to apartment blaze Thursday.

An apartment fire shut down Woodbine Ave. in both directions Thursday night.

Northport firefighters responded to the blaze at 147 Woodbine at 7:15 p.m. and quickly evacuated two people and three dogs from the apartment house, according to officials at the scene.

Northport Police said the fire apparently started in the kitchen at one of eight apartments in the building, although the cause is still under investigation.

One apartment was directly impacted by the fire, but others suffered water damage, police said.

Fire crews extinguished the fire, but the roadway was closed until 9 p.m. while an arson team investigated. One lane remained closed.

There were no reported injuries.
