UPDATE: 78-Year-Old East Northport Woman Dies in Crash

The driver was killed instantly when her vehicle hit a pole on Elwood Road.

A 78-year-old East Northport woman died in a car crash Sunday afternoon after hitting a pole on Elwood Road in East Northport.

According to police, Barbara Dedicke was driving a 2005 Honda southbound on Elwood Road when, for an unknown reason, her vehicle left the lane of travel, struck a parked car and then struck a utility pole just north of Clay Pitts Road, between 3rd Avenue and Glenridge Lane, near the entrance of the East Northport Jewish Center at approximately 3:30 p.m.  

Dedicke was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office. There were no passengers in her vehicle and no one else was hurt in the crash.

The Honda was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
