A driver was hospitalized after a car accident late Friday night in Huntington Station, authorities said.
The driver was trapped in an Acura SUV from the accident on Wyoming Drive near Oregon Drive, just before midnight. The Acura had struck a parked Mercedes-Benz SUV and rolled over before landing on its wheels, according to officials.
Firefighters from the Huntington Manor Fire Department, under the command of Chief Fred Steenson, Jr., used the heavy rescue "Jaws of Life" tools to pry open the driver's side door and remove the male driver.
About 25 firefighters were on the scene with two heavy rescue trucks and an engine. Firefighters applied an absorbent to the road for a fuel spill resulting from the crash.
Chief Steenson was assisted by Chiefs Frank McQuade and Mike DePasquale with the rescue operation. The patient was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad with non-life threatening injuries.
