Crimes Nearby: Stolen Jewelry, Guns Discovered in Sewer Drains

Patch reports on crime in the Long Island community.

The following information was taken from the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction as all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Lloyd Harbor

Four arrests have been made in connection with a string of recent crimes, according to village police.

Lloyd Harbor Police Chief Charles Flynn confirmed three residential burglaries and one attempted break-in occurred since February in the village on Monday. Two handguns, a shotgun and approximately $100,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from homes on Sea Crest Drive, Sound Crest Drive and Gerry Lane, according to Flynn.

Police say nearly 80 percent of the jewelry was been recovered — some found in village sewer drains by Lloyd Harbor Highway Department personnel, who discovered several firearms with defaced serial numbers.

Central Islip

The FBI dismantled a major heroin distribution ring last week that stretched from Brooklyn to the south shore of Suffolk County, resulting in several local arrests. The bust, a joint effort between the FBI, the Nassau County police and the Suffolk County police, broke up "The Perez Organization," a network of dealers and distributors.

Commack

Suffolk County police arrested several employees at three convenience stores Friday night for allegedly selling alcohol to underage customers.  Employees at the Quick Stop mini-mart in Commack, were arrested along with workers from the in Northport, and in East Northport, police said.

Smithtown

Elizabeth Rasmussen, 22, of Lindenhurst, was arrested on charges of three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon with a previous conviction. Reports state Rasmussen possessed a stun gun and a controlled substance when arrested.

Huntington

Conrad Chang from Syosset was arrested for criminal possession of marijuana.

Michael Shean from Syosset was arrested for criminal possession of marijuana, fifth degree.

Kyle Guarini from Oyster bay was arrested for harassment, second degree.

 

Massapequa

A Farmingdale man has been arrested and charged with vandalizing numerous vehicles in Massapequa back in February, Nassau County Police said on Tuesday.

According to Seventh Squad detectives, 19-year-old Tyler Jensen, of Farmingdale, , specifically in the vicinity of Lakeshore Boulevard. Authorities received the first report at around 4 a.m. on Feb. 19 and reports of vandalism continued into the afternoon.
