Crimes Nearby: Shooting; Graveside Robbery

A roundup of crime in the towns around Northport.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments. Where an arrest is mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Huntington Station

Three people were shot Sunday in Huntington Station in what Suffolk County police said was a suspected gang dispute. The three, Devon White, 18, Darius Howard, 16, and Philip Perez, 22, were sitting in a car near the Lincoln Farms Apartments at about 3:15 p.m. when a large group of men surrounded the vehicle and two of them shot into the car. The three were treated at Huntington Hospital; White was released on Monday. The investigation is continuing.

Commack

Brian McCauley, 40, of North Babylon and Nanette Tringali, 55, of Commack were arrested Nov. 22 in Commack and each charged with third degree burglary. They allegedly broke through a wall and stole a cash register from on Commack Road.

Farmingdale

Suffolk County Police are investigating a series of recent graveside vase thefts at

The Nassau County Criminal Defense Attorneys report that 38 bronze vases have been stolen from St. Charles in recent months, but only nine of the thefts were officially reported to the Suffolk Police Department. Another 150 vases made of the valuable metal have also been stolen from nearby

Hauppauge

Jesse Spindler, 26, of Huntington Station, was arrested Nov. 18 in Hauppauge and charged with first offense DWI. Spindler was driving a 2006 Nissan on Route 347 at 2:53 a.m. when he crossed three lanes of traffic to make an illegal left turn onto Route 111, according to police reports.

Alcira Escobar, 23, of Brentwood, was arrested Nov. 19 in Hauppauge and charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Escobar allegedly fled the scene after his 1997 Dodge was involved in an accident with a 2010 Mercedes at 4:30 p.m. A woman in the Mercedes was brought to the hospital, according to police reports.
