Cops: Northport Woman Slams into 5 Cars, Flees; DWI Charge

Northport Police Report: Some of the incidents police responded to recently.

A drunken woman careened into at least five cars and then attempted to flee last week, authorities said.

The woman was arrested and now faces multiple charges, according to police which received multiple reports of a possible drunk driver on July 12 at 8:43 p.m. Those reports indicated that the driver was trying to leave the scene in a black Mercedes Benz. Police arrived to see a woman sitting in the car’s driver seat, while stopped at the Main Street and Woodbine Avenue intersection. Police said the driver’s breath smelled strongly of alcohol and that her eyes were glassy, her speech slurred. She was unsteady on her feet upon exiting the car and held onto its trunk for balance.

The woman, a Northport resident, performed poorly on a sobriety test and refused a preliminary breath test on the scene. She was arrested, and at police headquarters a blood alcohol content test resulted in .30 percent. She was transported to Huntington Hospital because of her high level of intoxication, police said.
