Car Backs Into Northport Man's Store

Single-car accident stops traffic Sunday in heart of Huntington.

A driver trying to parallel park along New York Avenue in Huntington Sunday afternoon hit the gas instead of the brake and backed his sedan over the sidewalk and into a storefront, Suffolk Police said.

The car crashed into , owned by Peter Bisgeier of Northport, at approximately 3 p.m., closing traffic along the busy Route 110 corridor. The accident, on the northbound side near Elm Street, sent one person in the car to , police said.

In addition to damaging the antique store, just one door down from , the car also struck another parked vehicle. The and  responded to the scene.

No pedestrians were injured, according to officials on scene.
