The Village of Asharoken launched its new Police patrol boat May 20 at the
The boat was granted to the village by the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation .
The state parks department orders the new boats and then permanently lends the craft to municipalities.
As many of the boats are used on upstate lakes, the Village of Asharoken paid for a series of upgrades in order for the craft to be used on the rougher salty waters of Long Island Sound.
The village is recouping the cost of those upgrades from the sale of the old patrol boat.
Northport fire and police boats were also launched for the season and have been patrolling regularly.
