Update: American Legion, Laurel Ave. School Open as Warming Centers

Northport locations open Sunday to charge electronics or simply keep warm.

With a feels-like temperature hovering in the 30s, the Village of Northport has moved to open a warming center just off Main Street.

The at 7 Woodside Ave. will open Saturday and Sunday from 3-9 p.m., according to Trustee Damon McMullen. Residents are also welcome to charge electronic devices there.

"It's for people who want to come and charge their cell phones and those who just want to get warm and who have no heat," McMullen said.

Late Saturday, the Town of Huntington announced William J. Brosnan School on Laurel Ave. in Northport will open Sunday and Monday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The Town of Huntington has six other warming centers open.
