The drivers of two vehicles were hospitalized after a head-on crash in Melville Thursday night, authorities said.
At about 10 p.m. a Ford Mustang and a Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle collided on Wolf Hill Road near Saxon Street. Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Huntington Hospital by the Melville Fire Department Rescue Squad.
Melville firefighters applied an absorbent to the road for a fuel spill that resulted in the crash. About 30 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel were on the scene with two engines, two ambulances, a heavy rescue truck, fire police and a paramedic responder.
Units were under the command of Melville Fire Chief Mike McKeefrey, with the support of assistant chiefs Paul Mahler and Chris Nolan.
