People are continuing to line up on foot and by vehicle to buy gas for their generators or their cars. Numerous lines formed again Wednesday morning around Northport, including several at stations that showed no sign of opening.
It's the new routine, as we saw first-hand Monday at the eight-pump Hess station at Fort Salonga Road in Northport.
Customers on foot in the Town of Huntington looked especially miserable in the rain and winds Wednesday.
To find gas, use Hess' gas tracker. Another web resource is Gas Buddy.
How long do you think this will last? Will we get back to normal by this weekend? Next week?
Problem #2 is Gas Cans. It is perfectly legitimate that there are those screwed by LIPA and still are using a generator, but we should all know by now that MANY are simply bringing their brood to wait on 15 minute lines to fill up their 3 or 4 gas cans, then walking around the block and filling their car with them. Require the gas can people to line up with their cars rather than dedicating 2, 3 or more pumps to them while cars wait on 60 minute long lines. I've seen it over and over. Finally, institute Odd/Even days to slow the demand down and discourage hoarding and get rid of these stupid $40 limits so people can fill up and stay away for a couple of days.
My friend who lives near Oyster Bay witnessed a car cutting in a gas line behind her car. She watched through her rearview mirror as 2 drivers behind the cut-in got out of their cars and verbally threatened the 2 young women in the cut-in (they initially were laughing like it was a big joke). But the threats increased (one guy threatened to break the women's car windows) and the offenders left. A bit scary, isn't it?
