Evelyn M. Leist, 85, 'Quintessential Hostess'

Leist, admired for her wit and wisdom, loved to entertain and made lifelong friendships.

Evelyn M. Leist, born in Brooklyn and formerly of Northport, died peacefully on July 25 at the age of 85 in her Sarasota, Fla. home.

She was the loving wife of the recently deceased Robert L. Leist and is survived by her sisters, Ruth and Alice; her two daughters, Robin and Nancy; her son Steve, daughter-in-law Leigh Anne, and grandson Carl. 

Leist was a welcoming and generous hostess to all visitors and acquaintances and made close friendships that lasted a lifetime. While living in Northport from 1965-80, she enjoyed shopping and going out to eat at Al Dowd's Steakhouse in Centerport every Friday night with friends.

Leist possessed a quick and sharp wit that imbued her with an innate understanding of life’s journey. She was ever-giving without question and humble in recognition of her many assets.

She will next be seen cleaning up after the “Cousins Club” meeting in Heaven.
