Game Highlights and Scores.

7/8 Black Northport Tigers 7 Commack 16

The Tigers had a come from behind against a very tough Commack team. The win sparked by an offense which opened up holes for RBs Jack Helrigel, Dylan McNaughton, Dan Saracino and Dan Eagers. Down in the second half the O Line, led by Kellen Ryan, Nick Shorey, Tom Clinton, Wes Camillone and Matt Gillam kept grinding, leading to a 4th quarter Td by Jack Helrigel. Helrigel ran in the extra point by breaking several tackles refusing to go down until he secured the point to put the Tigers ahead for good.   After giving up a 1st quarter TD, the Defense stiffened up.  Stuffing Commack’s attack with huge tackles being made by Derek Macholz, Andrew Canales, Christian Raio and Macklin O’Brien.                     Season Record 1-1 September 22 Home vs. Commack 2

7/8 Red Northport Tigers 13 vs. Lindy Bulldogs 6

On a picture perfect day in Lindenhurst the Tigers established that they are real comfortable in close games. Neither team was able to find the end zone during the first half. A nice hustle play by Noah Armstrong and a broken up pass by Jack Tamborski were instrumental in keeping the Bulldogs off the board. The Bulldogs got the ball to start off the 2nd half and ripped off a 40 yard run on the first play from scrimmage. A few plays later they cashed in for a 3 yard touchdown run. This did not discourage the Tigers, however. Jacob Lubeck peeled off a 25 yard run followed by a 30 yard run touchdown scored by Jack Sandrib to even things up. The Tigers defense started to take control of this game. They stopped the Bulldogs from doing anything on their next drive, keyed by a Jacob Buell sack and an intentional grounding call on the Bulldogs quarterback. The Tigers got the ball back and Lubeck struck again. He squirmed out of a mob of Lindy defenders for a 50 yard touchdown run, and then he ran in the extra point giving the Tigers a 7 point cushion with time dwindling. Michael Petrucelly came up big with some stops playing on the left end. Not to be denied was Jason Mohlmann sacking the quarterback from the right end, and forcing the running back to fumble on the final play of the game. Great individual play by Michael Meyer, it seemed like he was all over the place all game. We have to mention toughness awards for Christopher Payne and Tommy Linane who got hurt and came back in the game.           Season Record 2-0 Next game September 23 home vs. East Islip

7/8 Blue Northport 13 vs. Bayport 19

After coming off a great win last week over Connetquot the 7/8 Blue Team sustained its first loss of the season in a dog fight with Bayport.  The Northport Tigers scored first on its opening drive after a 30 yard 4-7 smack run by Tom "Joe Cool" Butler putting them in the red zone.  Tim "The Cat" Kirschner then banged it in on a QB sneak on phenomenal line blocking of Hudson "Give me the Ball" Cobe, Ryan "Mac Attack" McEnroe and Aidan "The Hammer" Kolbe. The Tigers are going with the tandem QB duo of Butler and Kirschner depending on which play is called.  Both are filling in for starting QB Will "The Thrill" Murphy who is on injured reserve suffering a separated shoulder in a pre-season game.  Murphy is still involved in the Tiger offense as he has been retained by the team as QB Coach and Offensive Coordinator. Bayport quickly tied up the score but the Tigers immediately went back up, marching down the field on the consistent running plays of Owen "Bulldozer" Johanson who average 5 yards per carry often carrying two or three defenders on his back!  This was again capped off by Kirschner on a 1-9 belly.   All of this was made possible from the blocking of Jack "Mr. Steady" Rykert, Caleb "Sneak Attack" Hamada, Michael "yes Coach" Tittman and Roane "Ice Cream Cone" Lembo who played both offensive line and wing back. Bayport again tied up the score just as the half ran out.  At the start of the third quarter the Tiger defense stopped Bayport. Bone crushing hits from Joe "Lasagna" DiChiaro, Landon "its all good" Rosales, Walter "Bulldog" Zalek, Chandler "on the low" Arnold and Garret "go get em'" Warren.  Rykert picked up a fumble recovery and the Tigers immediately got to work on offense but the Bayport defense shut down Northport's offense. Bayport put together a nice drive late in the 4th quarter to go ahead 19-13.  Unfortunately as the Tigers were marching down the field time ran out and the Northport came up short.  All of the players gave 110% on Sunday and they are looking forward to a home game after a long road trip. Season Record 1-1 September 23 home vs. Connetquot

9 Black Northport Tigers 7 vs. East Islip 6

The Tigers 9 year old black team beat East Islip Sunday in thrilling fashion 7-6.  It was a great team effort, hi-lighted by several tremendous individual plays.  Leading the way offensively was the tough inside running of fullback Vinnie Bruno the brilliant outside runs of halfback Rafe Carner, the poise and steady leadership of quarterback Tommy Fitzgerald and a 50 yard, game-changing end-around by Tristan Triolo.  The end-around was the key to an impressive 80 yard, two-minute drill to end the first half, resulting in a touchdown and extra point both scored by  Rafe Carner.  Bruno and Carner also made key runs resulting in several first downs in the fourth quarter to seal the win.  The offensive line also played well anchored by Gavin O’Malley, Justin Baskam, Vincent Gaddis, Andrew Blom and Ethan Koenig.  The defense made three impressive goal line stands and included excellent performances by linebackers Bruno, Baskam and Andrew Argyrus, tackle Joey Gonzalez and cornerbacks Robbie Kennedy and Emerson Payne, who each made several key, drive-stalling open field tackles.  Other game changing plays were made by Fitzgerald, who recovered  a fumble inside the Tigers' 5 yard line to retain possession and avoid an almost certain go-ahead touchdown by East Islip, and Emerson Payne, who broke up a pass in the end zone on a fourth and goal that also looked to be a go ahead touchdown by East Islip.  Also contributing to the win was the tough play on defense by Mikey Catrone, playing despite a painful back injury, two-way starter at end, Ryan Wagner and lineman Isaiah Headley.  Season Record 1-1 September 23 home vs. Islip

9 Red Northport Tigers 19 vs. Islip 13

Northport started down on Saturday night, with an early fumble by Nrpt Islip had a long throw for the first TD.  Aaron Winnegar and the Nrpt defense held off the extra point.  A 23 yard run followed by a 30 yard run by halfback Bruce Peden put Nrpt in the end zone.  Joe Evans barreled through scoring our first touchdown.  Islip offense tried to run through the line but solid defense of Zach Evans, Jake Serroen, and Matt Powers wouldn’t let them through.  They tried around the outside but safety Ryan Bell took them down.  Nrpt pushed down field.  With a quick snap by center Ryan Farrington allows QB Christian Pastore to fake it to the halfback and have a 40 yard run.  Some good tackles by Connor Higgins, Angelo Prestipino kept Islip from scoring.  Nrpt pushed down field again.  Nrpt defense Aaron Winnegar creates the hole and QB Christian Pastore blasts through putting Nrpt in the lead.  The strong Islip offense comes back to score and tie the game.  Nrpt drove the ball downfield but was short on the last down.  Islip threw the ball gaining some yards but a sack by Tyler Florio causing Islip to fumble allowed Nrpt to gain possession again.  Nrpt had some good drives but just couldn’t score.  An excellent punt by Thomas McDonagh put Islip far off the end zone.  In the final 30 seconds of the game Islip throws the ball but Nrpt end Connor Gallagher intercepts the ball and runs untouched for almost 60 yards winning the game for Northport.                                                                                           Season Record 1-1 September 23 @ Huntington

9 Blue Tigers Northport 20 vs. Patchogue Medford 7

With another great all around team effort, the Northport Tigers defeated the Patchogue Medford Raiders 20-7 on Saturday. The Tigers score twice in the second quarter on two short TD runs by Ryan Hutton but it was the great running of Nicholas DeMarco on both drives that set up the scores with several long runs. QB Luke Rizzo ran in the extra points on both TDs to stake Northport to 14-0 halftime lead. The Tiger defense (with strong efforts from Jack Fernandez, Justice Felice, Tobin Centamore, Devin Locker, Jimmy Atkinson, Anthony Bettano and William Tyska) played awesome again, pressuring the Raiders QB and RBs into several mistakes during the game that eventually let to Northport TDs. In the second quarter, DT John Chapman made a great interception and in the third quarter, Gavin Tiener (who also made several marvelous open field tackles) scooped up a Patchogue Medford fumble and scampered about 40 yards to put the Tigers up 20-0. The Raiders managed to cut the lead to 20-7 midway through the fourth quarter but because of excellent blocking up front from Jude Anton, Christopher Dowd, Jacob Starcke, Andrew Tittman and Ethan Jolly, the offense was able to keep control of the ball and run out the clock to lock up a second straight victory for the Tigers                                                                 Season Record 2-0 September 23 @ North Shore

10 Red Tigers  Northport 19 vs. Smithtown 0

Northport set the tone of the game with a dominating 65 yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage by Full Back Shane “The Train” Finkelstein. Finkelstein punished every Smithtown defender breaking countless tackles and running over the Smithtown defense on his way to the end zone. The run was simply amazing, as the Northport fans cheered Shane “The Train” all the way to the goal line. On Smithtown’s first offensive series the Northport defense continued to punish Smithtown and caused the first takeaway of the year for the Tigers when a fumble was recovered by Nose Guard John McMorrow.  The second offensive drive of the game for Northport ended again in spectacular fashion when Quarterback Anthony Vozza hit Tight End “Touchdown” Tommy Sandrib on a 25 yard completion to once again find the end zone for the Tigers offense for the second time in the quarter. After Sandrib’s first touchdown of the season the Tigers never looked back, assisted by the completely dominating offensive line play of Tackles Michael Morreale and Quinlan Finnegan, Center Ted “Ice Man” Kavanagh and Guards Larry Citrola and James Alden the Northport offense ran all day on Smithtown with big runs from Tail Back Sean D'Amaro and Full Back Max Romano.  The Tigers came together strong on defense with contributions from every player on the team including dominating  interior defensive line play William Cuttita, Anthony Canales, Paul Peragallo and Dillon Brown. The Tigers Linebacker core of Joseph Sierra, Finkelstein and Romano led the defense and stopped any chance of Smithtown mounting a comeback by the fierce and consistent gang tackling all game long. The results, a near perfect defensive performance keeping Smithtown from ever really having a chance to score on the Tigers. The highlight of the game came late in the Third Quarter when Tail Back Ryan Parker took the sweep option pass and while under pressure got the throw off and hit “Touchdown” Tommy Sandrib in the back corner of the end zone. Sandrib making a highlight reel catch by blocking out the defender and snatching the ball in the air while managing to keep his feet in bounds in the back corner of the end zone. Simply amazing!!  For the second week in a row the Tigers have demonstrated how their hard work and great effort is proving success on the football field. The coaches would like to thank the players for the commitment to hard work and dedication they are showing each week. Once again this week was a successful overall TEAM performance with significant contributions from every member of the TEAM. We are looking forward to building on our success and the upcoming challenge next week.                                                                              Season Record 2-0 September 23 @ Half Hollow Hills

On a beautiful Sunday morning, Northport’s 11 year old BLACK team was home vs. the North Shore Colts.  The Tigers would not disappoint the home crowd dominating the game with tremendous defense and a ground and pound offense in an 18-0 win.  The Colts won the toss and wanted to set the tone early but one problem stood in there way….the Northport Defense.  The Tigers D would be the tone setters and after 4 plays for a total of -4 yards forced the Colts to punt.  Northport’s offense wanted to capitalize on the defensive effort.  Northport offense line led by C Ronan Cooney, G Mike Chapman, G Tyler Pederson, T Chris Lembo, T Sean Nelson, TE Nick Ford and TE Justin Schmeiser said follow us and went on a 7 play 45 yard drive that was capped by a 27 yard TD run by Jake Bonomi to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead.  The Tigers defense forced another punt midway thru the 2nd quarter, which resulted in a 15 yard punt return by Jake Bonomi set up the Tigers offense @ the Colts 31.  After pounding runs by RB Sal Miccio and Justin Gerdvil up the middle the defense was set up again.  The offensive line crushed the right side of the Colts D and RB Jake Bonomi following a great lead block by RB Justin Gerdvil got around the end for 27 yard TD score to increase the Tigers lead 12-0.  The Colts determined to score went to a spread offense and broke a 52 yard run that was stopped a TD saving tackle by OLB Jake Bonomi @ the Tigers 8 yard line.  Northport’s D would see the first real test of the game, but ILB Sal Miccio would step in front of a would be Colts receiver to intercept the pass and end the scoring threat.  The first half ended Tigers 12 Colts 0.  The tigers opening drive of the second half featured all of the offensive backfield getting into the mix with a highlight reel 26 yard run by Justin Gerdvil to the Colts 15 yard line.  The Colts defense would answer the bell and stiffen up.  The Tigers drive stalled at the Colts 13.  Northport’s defense said we will take it from here and after 2 plays ILB Justin Gerdvil recovered a fumble to set the Tiger offense up at the Colts 12 yard line.  The Offense which was solid all day would strike quick with a tackle breaking 12 yard run by RB Sal Miccio to increase the lead midway thru the 3rd quarter to 18-0.  Northport’s defense which was punishing all day would finish off the game with solid tackles and hard hits by DE Jeremy Gerdvil, DE Justin Schmeiser, ILB Sal Miccio, OLB Ryan Smith, FS Christopher Gessner, DT Sean Nelson, NT Ronan Cooney, DT Ethan Bluver, DT Nick Tabert, SS AJ Ranieri, NG Josh Taylor to preserve the win and shutout.       Season Record 2-0  September 23 @ Bayshore

11Red Tigers Northport 20 vs. Lindenhurst 0

The 11 year old Red team had their first home game of the young season this past Sunday at Vets Park.  The Tigers lost the toss and started on Defense by shutting down the Lindy Bulldogs running game with great tackles by Joe Billelo, Guy Davis, Dan Melamerson, Ryan Gillam and Aidan Jolly.  The Tigers took over on downs and also were stopped, despite great blocking up front by Dan Melamerson, Henry Miller, Will Chisholm, Alex Pica, and Mike Mihalin.  After exchanging possessions during the first quarter, Ian Melamerson was able to shake off two tacklers and rumble 35 yards down the sideline for the first score of the game.  He was sprung free on a great seal block by Grady O’Neill.  Ian converted the extra point on a blast up the middle behind the block of his brother Dan and neighbor, Alex Pica.  The Tiger defense was called on again to stymie the Bulldog attack.  This time the Lindenhurst air attack was stunted by Cornerbacks Liam Caulfield, Tanner Lindvall, Matt Picciano and Will Loeber.  With 52 seconds left in the half, Northport got the ball back on their own 32.  With long runs by Patrick Denunzio and a great cut back run by Joe Giardina, Northport found themselves on the Bulldog 31 yard line with 6 seconds remaining in the half.   On a great run around end, with two crushing lead blocks by Grady O’Neill and athletic pulling guard Will Chisholm, Ian Melamerson ran it in as the clock winded to zero.  The conversion was good on a nifty run by Grady O’Neill putting the Tigers up at half time by a score of 14-0.  The Tigers started the second half on offense.  The 3rd quarter started with a clock consuming, mini drive that ended on the Lindenhurst 28 yard line.  The bulldogs took over and then the Tiger D led by Linebackers Brice Higgins, Sterling Thompson and Nose Guard, Guy Davis dug in and  would not be deterred form maintaining the shutout.  Tackles by Chris Mignanelli, Aidan Ryan and Ryan Gillam secured the shutout as the Tigers tacked on the final touchdown on a spectacular 31 yard sprint through traffic by QB Will Loeber.   The Tigers maintained that shutout to end the game for the 20-0 win.  Come out and see the greatest show on turf next week when the 11 year old Red team travels to Islip to maintain the undefeated season.                    Season Record 1-0-1 September 23 @ Islip
