Veterans Honored During Fall Harvest at Northport VA

Volunteers from Applebee's fired up the grills to provide veterans with a free lunch during the celebration.

An army of volunteers from Applebee's served more than a thousand veterans from on the front lawn of the Northport VA Medical Center.

For the third year, Applebee’s honored veterans with a free meal during the Fall Harvest Festival celebration held on the hospital grounds. For several hours, the grills remained heated up while hundreds of pounds burgers and chicken were
barbequed and served to those who served their country.

"On Veteran's Day, we honor servicemen by providing them with a free meal in
their honor at our restaurants, but several years ago we realized that some
of our Veterans can't get out to our restaurants," Kurt Pahlitzsch,
director of operations for the Long Island Applebee's, said. "So, in order to
honor these deserving Veterans, we simply turned the tables and worked with
the Northport VA Medical Center to bring dozens of cooks and servers from
our restaurants straight to where they live."
