East Northport native Virginia Huie is up for over nine NY Emmy Award nominations for her work as a News 12 Long Island Reporter and fill-in anchor.
A first generation Chinese-American, Huie attended Commack High School, where she enjoyed English and art and was also a member of the kickline. She showed true school spirit and loved going to football and basketball games, and fondly remembers celebrating team victories at local pizza parlors and Friendly's.
Huie attended Barnard College/Columbia University with a degree in Economics and a Master of Arts degree in Communication from Stanford University. She is the recipient of three Edward R. Murrow Awards, six Emmy Awards, and 48 Emmy nominations and attributes her prolific success to her parents.
"They taught me to dream big, aim high, and work hard," she said.
Huie is nominated for awards in the Historical News, Military News/Program Special, Writing, and Sports categories. Winners will be announced April 1 at the NY Emmy Awards Gala in Manhattan.
