Photo Blog: Northport Icicles

Shoveling the stoop and digging out my car: My back won't soon forget those experiences. It was a bitterly cold winter on Long Island, one that saw me on constant snow and ice duty.

But for a shutterbug like myself, it also provided boundless opportunities to click away. One of those picture-perfect moments came one weekend afternoon when my wife assigned me to clear the rooftop of extra snow.

Before I could dislodge the wet slush from out my second story window, I had to knock down the forest of icicles hanging down. These translucent spears were impossibly long, like the fingers of Old Man Winter himself. 

And in an instant they were gone. They shattered with a wave of the broom handle. But not before I paused to admire and capture them digitally.
