Northport Girls' Varsity Swimming Crushes Lindenhurst

Northport beats Lindenhurst 61-37 in a fantastic meet.

On Friday, Oct. 14, Northport Girls’ Varsity Swimming competed against Lindenhurst and won the meet by a wide margin. The total score was 61-37.

The meet began with a bang as Northport’s two 200 Medley relays swept the first and second positions! Both relays made Counties. Next, Northport’s Hailey Modelewski won the 200 IM event with a fantastic time of 2:30.81, winning by the entire length of the pool. Northport’s Courtney won Diving as usual, a spectacular performance; she accumulated more points than Lindenhurt’s divers put together!

Northport’s Nicole Papsco won the 100 Freestyle event with a lightning-fast time of 55.45; Melanie Newton dominated the 500 Freestyle, swimming the 20 laps in only 5:39.89! The 100 Breastroke event was another fantastic race, with Northport’s Nicole Papsco and Sam Reilly taking the 1-2 spots.

Again, the most exciting part of Northport’s meet against Lindenhurst was the 400 Freestyle relay event. Northport’s “A” relay, consisting of Melanie Newton, Kathi Unger, Shanna Haddow and Nicole Papsco, won the race by a mile with a time of 4:01.10. In second place came Northport’s “B” relay, in which swam Krissy Unger, Jacqui Neber, Olivia Smith and Sam Reilly. This major win helped propel Northport ahead of Lindenhurst by almost 20 points!

This was a thrilling meet with fantastic performances from all the girls. It’s only Northport’s fourth meet, and they’ve been turning out some spectacular races and times. Congratulations, swimmers!
