Toys for Tots Drive at Northport Tree Lighting

Girl Scouts and U.S. Marines will be collecting new, unwrapped gifts Nov. 29.

The Northport Village Christmas Tree lighting on Nov. 29 will be bringing holiday cheer to not just those in attendance, but also to children who would otherwise go without a gift this season, thanks to the help of local Girl Scouts.

Girl Scout Troop 1470 will be hosting a Toys for Tots drive that day, starting at 5 p.m. outside of Chase Bank on Main Street. U.S. Marines in uniform will help to collect the toys and children can see a real U.S. Marine Hummer outside of the bank. Donations of unwrapped, new toys will be collected.

The Northport Chamber of Commerce will host the rest of the Christmas festivities at Village Park. Residents can see live reindeer from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., courtesy of the Window Shop Jewelers.

Santa and his helpers will arrive by firetruck with the help of the Northport Fire Department and the Northport Chorale and DJ Tommy Bruno will be providing music to get in the Christmas cheer. Hot chocolate and cookies will be given out courtesy of Copenhagen Bakery, Tim's Shipwreck Diner and Northport Feed and Grain.

The tree lighting will take place at 7 p.m.
