Northport’s Oldest House Opens for Holiday Tours Next Month

The recently renovated Skidmore House is 250 years old.

The Northport Historical Society will hold its traditional holiday house tour Dec. 8, and this year’s tour will include the newly renovated 250-year-old Skidmore House.

The Skidmore House, located at 529 Main Street is the oldest house in the Northport, according to the historical society.

The earliest part of the Skidmore House was built in 1761 with a rubble wall basement foundation and the western section was built in 1815. The original foundation under this section was approximately two rubble stones deep with dirt directly under the floor joists. However, in the 1920's two dormers were added to the front and two to the rear. A kitchen, small utility space, and a second room were also added to the rear. An interior photo of the home’s fireplace adorned with holiday décor is attached.
