NHS "Sunday at the Society": The Real Story of the Culper Spy Ring

Are you curious about what really happened during the American Revolution here on Long Island? Interest is at an all-time high due to cable television shows such as “Turn,” but fiction has been mixed with fact. Clear up the confusion on Sunday, August 3 as the Northport Historical Society welcomes Raynham Hall Museum Educator Michael Goudket at “Sunday at the Society” at 2 p.m. at the museum (215 Main Street, Northport). Mr. Goudket will separate what is known from what is legend and fictional dramatization. We will explore the evolution and technology of espionage as Benjamin Tallmadge created the first modern spy operation. The presentation will last about 45 minutes with a discussion session to follow. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members.

Mr. Goudket is the Raynham Hall Museum’s official “Culper Jr.,”Agent 723, and takes seriously the search for truth in history. He is also Master of Music for the Huntington Militia, a re-enactment group and the official colonial guard of Huntington. Mr. Goudket has had many magazine articles published on colonial American life, appeared on NEWS 12 and been interviewed on WFUV and WRHU. He also performs music of the 18th century on period instruments.
