First Presbyterian Church of Northport Open House

After months of planning, years of construction, and thousands of prayers, the renovation of the First Presbyterian Church building at 330 Main Street, Northport is complete.

The renovated part of the building is now fully accessible for everyone, regardless of physical limitations; ramps and an elevator supplement the few stairs remaining.  The new library and meeting rooms are larger and energy efficient.  The new nursery is brighter and fully-equipped.  The new Joshua Hartt Room provides greater space for meetings, classes and performances.  And, there are more restrooms in every part of the building.

“It is my hope that the more than $2 million worth of improvements to the building will allow First Presbyterian Church to increase its service to the community,” says The Rev. Dr. Tim Hoyt Duncan, pastor of First Presbyterian Church.  “We already house the Northport-East Northport Food Pantry, provide early childhood education through our Weekday Nursery School and make our building available to community groups, including the Boy Scouts, Al-Anon, and a weight loss program.  We want to do more for more people, and our improved building will make that possible.”

“We’re throwing the doors open to the entire Northport community on Sunday, December 8 with an open house, starting at 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.”  says Charlene Cosman, chair of the church’s Renovation Task Force.  During the open house, there will be musical performances in the sanctuary and guided tours of the rest of the church building. “People have gone past the church for a long time now, and wondered ‘What’s up in there?’” says Ms Cosman, “December 8 is their chance to see for themselves.”
