Northport Public Library

On December 30, 1962 the tugboat Gwendoline Steers, owned by the Steers Sand & Gravel Company, sank in Long Island Sound during an ice storm. The following morning, the tug’s lifeboat was found at Hobart Beach on Eatons Neck with the body of Second Engineer Hugh Reid encased in ice. The rest of the nine member crew were presumed dead. Join Ed Carr, director of the Town of Huntington’s Maritime Services, for a forensic analysis of this mysterious tragedy. No registration required.
