Update: Widespread Power Outages Hit Northport

LIPA reports 7,600 customers affected in Town of Huntington as high winds rip through region overnight.

Update, 11:45 a.m: LIPA reports 3,395 outages in Town of Huntington, including 528 in East Northport, 48 in Northport and 41 in Asharoken. 

Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Town of Huntington -- especially East Northport -- seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.

The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 7,600 customers were without power townwide as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, including 886 in East Northport, 752 in Asharoken and another 22 in Northport.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.

A high wind warning is in effect for Suffolk County through 9 a.m. Thursday.
