The Town of Huntington has ordinances governing noise, outdoor lighting, times to be in a cemetery, and illegal apartments, to name a few.
Outdoor lighting must not cause light trespass upon adjacent properties and the waterways, nor create glare and excessive light. Any lighting which violates the light trespass limits, causes glare to adjacent properties, or creates a public nuisance or hazard can be ordered removed at any time.
Any animal or bird noise occurring for any continuous period of five minutes or more, or an aggregate of 15 minutes or more in any eight-hour period, when such noise is plainly audible inside any portion of a dwelling, residence, office or apartment other than the place where the noise originated is a violation of town code.
And all those rental apartments in people's basements: virtually all are illegal, according to the town. And all legal apartments must have smoke detectors.
Which of these town-ordinance violations anger you most? Have you ever complained?
