: The Northport boys lacrosse team rallied to beat upstate power Corning Saturday at Veterans Park in East Northport, capping a day of thrilling lacrosse while raising awareness. The day-long event was named for Louis Acompora, a goalie on the freshman lacrosse team who died in 2000 after being struck in the chest with a ball and suffering commotio cordis, a rare form of cardiac arrest.

: Northport High School teacher and mother Tammy Walsh used her own family's battle against drug addiction to raise awareness through the Northport Community Book Club.

: A former employee at the Long Island Head Injury Association in Commack was indicted last week on nearly 50 charges, after authorities say he stole the identity of 56 individuals with brain injuries and used them to file false state and federal tax returns.

: The Northport-East Northport Board of Education voted unanimously on Tuesday night to approve a Memorandum Of Agreement with the Teacher Aides Association extending the contract which expired on June 30, 2011 through the 2014-2015 school year.

: Colors of East owner Chander Renjen and her husband hand pick every item that goes on the shelves of their Northport store on 166 Main Street, which opened in early April. Brightly colored dresses, shawls, bags, and tapestries from the artisans of Northern India adorn the walls alongside a selection of sterling silver anklets, coin-lined belly dancer outfits, decorative boxes, and imported edible treats.
