Wednesday, Aug. 31: LIRR Service on Port Jeff Line Restored

Five things to know or do, the Wednesday edition.

1. After days without service along the Port Jefferson line, the MTA Long Island Rail Road is restoring full weekday service for Wednesday morning’s rush hour on the Long Beach and Port Jefferson branches. Limited service was brought back in time for Tuesday evening's rush hour on the entire Port Jefferson Branch. 

2. According to LIPA's outage map, outages in the area are steadily . Follow Northport Patch on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

4. Chief Ric Bruckenthal in the Northport area. Power was finally restored to the areas in and around Main Street around 4 a.m. Tuesday. 

5. The Cow Harbor Association, in conjunction with CelTek Wireless, is collecting used cell phones for recycling. Used cell phones can be dropped off on September 16th at the 10K Run registration table, or the morning of the race. Phones can also be dropped off at collection bins around town, including: , , Joan's Drug Store (Northport), (Fort Salonga), Kings Park Hardware, King Kullen (Commack)
