The Future Home Of Taco Bell?

Proposal submitted to build Taco Bell drive-through on vacant East Northport lot.

Where for art thou, Taco Bell?

Die-hard fans of the fast food Tex-Mex chain have bemoaned the loss of Taco Bell since it closed its Larkfield Road location seven years ago. But now it may be coming back.

The Town of Huntington Zoning Board reviewed a proposal to build a Taco Bell drive-through on a one acre vacant lot at 3048 Jericho Turnpike, across from Verleye Avenue in East Northport, at its July 18 meeting.

Taco Bell is requesting a special use permit and parking variance for 50 parking spots on the site. According to The Times of Northport, Taco Bell's initial variance request was denied in April by the Town Planning Board. A company representative argued that the bulk of business would come from drive-through customers and it therefore would not need the additional spaces.

Taco Bell must return to the zoning board with a real estate expert to further evaluate the proposal, according to The Times.

Earlier this year, East Northporter Robert Ryan launched a one-man campaign to bring back the Larkfield Road Taco Bell, creating a "Bring Back Larkfield Road Taco Bell" Facebook page with the hopes of attracting some attention to the cause.

While it's not Larkfield Road, this may be the next best spot. What do you think? Tell us in the comment section below.
