Preventing Slips and Falls; Boy Scouts Roundtable

Hello and welcome to the Thursday edition of "The Daily Five," a rundown of things to know or do in the community.

1. Weather: Showers likely, mainly before 9 a.m. Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 66. Northwest wind between 9 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

2. 42nd Street: With book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, with lyrics by Al Dubin and music by Harry Warren and based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, 42nd Street, is the ultimate Broadway fairy tale as a small town chorus girl, Peggy Sawyer, gets her chance to become an overnight star. Filled with amazing production numbers such as We're in the Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off to Buffalo and 42nd Street, this fast-paced, dance-filled classic musical celebrates the stuff that dreams are made of. Engeman Theater at 8 p.m. $60.

3. Preventing Slips, Trips, and Falls: Preventing falls is of critical importance when it comes to the health of older adults. Patty Van Dyke, R.N. of the Visiting Nurse Service will discuss the risk factors and causes of falls among those over fifty, and will identify factors that increase the likelihood of slips, trips, and falls, and offer practical strategies to decrease your risk. at 10 a.m.

4. Duck Soup: See the 1933 classic comedy for free at the at 1:30 p.m.

5. Boy Scouts Roundtable: The Matinecock District will hold its monthly Roundtable meeting at at 7:30 p.m. followed by break-out sessions starting at 7:45 p.m. Roundtable is designed to help Cub Scout and Boy Scout volunteer leaders do a better job working with youth. The Matinecock District serves youth living in the Town of Huntington, as well as in the western Smithtown Township communities of Commack, Kings Park, and Hauppauge.
