At the height of Hurricane Irene, Joe Affrunti ventured out along Asharoken Ave. by the . He snapped photos with his phone and hoped the wall would hold. Here is his story:
"I took those pictures around 8:45 a.m. Sunday morning. When I was taking the pictures I was reminded of the incredible power that Mother Nature has.
"In the back of my mind I feared that the new sea wall would succumb to the power of the waves. Thankfully, though, the wall defended Asharoken Avenue against Hurricane Irene."
