Last Chance: 'What She Said' Poetry Reading

It's National Poetry Month. Stop by the Northport Library tonight to celebrate with readings and refreshments at 7 p.m.

We've seen hundreds of events come and go in the community, but how often does one pass you by that you wish you hadn't missed out on? That's where we come in. Each week, Northport Patch will post a quick reminder about the events, activities or important tasks whose deadlines have come.

This week we're highlighting the recognition of National Poetry Month with “What She Said,” a celebration of women poets and singer-songwriters hosted by NAC’s Poets-in-Port coordinator Mary Jane Tenerelli at 7 p.m. tonight at the Northport Library.

Mary Jane, Kate Kelly, and Kelly Powell will read their original poems. The talented local poets will "keep company" with the likes of Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Alice Walker and others . Poems will focus on Motherhood, Madness, and God and the readings will be interspersed with songs written and performed by singer/song writers Joan Osbourne, Shawn Colvin, and Barbara Anne Branca.
