Organic Gardening, Marine Life at Earth Day Expo

Earth Day Expo Saturday

The Family Earth Day Expo will take place this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Town Hall Parking Lot at 100 Main Street, Huntington, featuring solar energy, organic gardening, and composting demonstrations.

Representatives from Cornell Cooperative Extension will also provide children of all ages the opportunity to touch and experience a variety of sea specimens in their marine life touch tank, as they demonstrate the importance of protecting our precious marine environment.

Children can also climb on, touch, and learn about the functionality and safety aspects of the different town trucks including a fire truck, rescue vehicles, and a garbage truck.

Town Declares Emergency to Stop Mulch Fire

Citing imminent danger from a week-long fire burning on a property along Jericho Turnpike, the Town of Huntington moved to contain the threat by declaring a state of emergency Monday and trucking out tons of mulch, logs and debris from land owned by John and Wayne Dougal along the Town border with Woodbury. The is estimated to be 300 by 200 feet wide and up to 60 feet high.

Teen Poets Featured on HART Buses

Winners of the Poetry for the HART: Teen Poetry Project, a Town of Huntington Public Art Initiative, will be recognized on Monday, April 23, at the Walt Whitman birthplace with an awards ceremony and reception from 7-9 p.m.

The event also includes a poetry reading by adult poet mentors (to be announced) selected by co-lead agency Teenspeak, as well as the teen poets who will read their winning works. The winners will have their poems featured in Town HART buses.

Two New Stores Moving into former Barnes & Noble

Two new stores are setting up shop in the vacant Barnes & Noble space in Huntington Station. Signs in the window confirm that Tilly's Specialty Retail Clothing and ULTA Beauty will be moving into the location at 380 Walt Whitman Road.

Seniors Celebrate World Cultures

Senior women of the Town were models for the day and walked the runway in various outfits from Dress Barn, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, and even their own closets at the Huntington Senior Center’s Women’s History Multicultural Fashion Show last Friday afternoon.

Friday was also an important day for Aida and Aurelio Lara, who celebrated their 29th anniversary by renewing their vows, with Councilwoman Berland officiating.

"Officiating the vow renewal was also a delight, Aida and Aurelio are such a sweet couple and I wish them all the best for more years to come," she said.
