Lead By Example Youth Program Kicks Off

Suffolk County Legislator William Spencer will kick off his new summer internship program called Lead by Example at a celebration hosted by the Bethpage Federal Credit Union Bank at 33 Gerard Street in Huntington Village from 5-7 p.m. on July 9.

“The Lead by Example program will give students from all backgrounds opportunities to learn, network and obtain real work experience,” Legislator Spencer said in a release. “The participating businesses will also benefit from the creative, eager energy that the interns will bring to the jobs! I am hopeful that lasting relationships will be forged this summer! Anyone interested in participating can call my District Office. There are plenty of opportunities available for everyone!”

High school and college interns have been selected to work with local businesses in Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington, Northport and East Northport areas to gain valuable work experience. In addition to their internship, students will have the opportunity to participate in a series of personal growth workshops, including resume writing, interview skills, professional presentation and anti-bullying in the workplace and more.

Ellen O’Brien, the Executive Director for the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce, shared her excitement about the program.

“The program provides businesses in need of extra assistance for the summer months a great opportunity to fulfill that need at an affordable rate and provides high school and college students the valuable and vital experience so useful for their future careers in the business world. The results for everyone
are priceless.”
