Update: Nor'easter Whacks Northport

Nearly 800 homes were without power and Northport football game stopped at halftime Saturday.

Wet and wintery conditions Saturday created havoc throughout Northport.

High winds with gusts up to 55 mph caused 780 homes in Northport to lose power earlier in the day, according to LIPA's online outage map.

LIPA's website estimated restoration by 7:30 p.m. And no new outages were reported overnight.

Six inches of snow and 65 mph wind gusts were possible overnight through early Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Sustained winds of between 25 and 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, increasing throughout the evening, were also predicted.

But as Northporters awoke Sunday, no snow was reported overnight.

The foul weather forced officials to halt Saturday's afternoon football showdown between West Islip and . The game was stopped at halftime with West Islip ahead 22-0. The game will be resumed at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at .

The conditions also sent in Plainview and to the hospital for signs of hypothermia during football games, and forced St. Anthony's officials to push back its football game with CHSFL rival Iona Prep from Saturday night to Sunday 1 p.m.
