HART Bus Schedule Changes Meeting Rescheduled

Proposed route and schedule changes for the Huntington Area Rapid Transit (HART) Bus system will be discussed on Nov. 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Northport Public Library. The meeting was rescheduled from Nov. 3 due to Hurricane Sandy.

The service, established in 1978, would add 20.5 miles of service and a fourth line, but eliminate two weekday peak-rail feeder routes that have lost most of their ridership. The new routes can be viewed on the here. Service to all other major facilities will continue, the town said.

The changes would take effect in January. Buses would run more frequently than under current schedules, and is designed to require fewer transfers. The Town hopes that these changes will encourage more people to use HART, the only Town-operated bus system on Long Island.

The changes are the result of review conducted by consultants Abrams-Cherwony & Associates.

The informational meeting, originally scheduled at the East Northport Library, is the second of two such meetings. The first was held in Huntington October 27. HART will be running more frequent service on November 17 to make it more convenient for residents to attend.
