Get Out! Northport's Weekend Planner: Dec. 14-16

A rundown of family-friendly events this weekend.

It's Friday and you have no idea what to do this weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue with the best bets around town.

  • Rest ye merry gentlemen and ladies . . . by the fireside at the East Northport Library!  Enjoy holiday music performed by the talented members of the Northport Middle School Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Anthony Tramontana on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the East Northport Library.
  • Through Jan. 6, see A Christmas Carol - A Ghost Story of Christmas at The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport. Michael Wilson’s adaptation is a creative re-telling of Dickens’ classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, the heartless miser who discovers the true meaning of the holiday season after a Christmas Eve haunting. Featuring Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, this story of love and redemption is both a chilling ghost tale and a heartwarming holiday event for families and people of all ages.
  • On Friday, enjoy a festive performance from The Northport Chorale at Northport High School. The "Holiday Harmony" features " Sing We Now of Christmas" "Where are you Christmas?," Eric Whitacre's "Five Hebrew Love Songs," "Hiney Mah Tov" and a delightful potpourri of seasonal favorites.
  • Through Jan. 6, see Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport. Christmas has been cancelled! Or at least, it will be if Santa can't find a way to guide his sleigh through a  fierce blizzard. Fortunately for him, there's Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Shunned by the other reindeer because of his glowing nose, Rudolph becomes a hero when he guides Santa through the storm and enables him to deliver Christmas presents to children all over the world.
  • Take an entertaining and informative guided walking tour of Northport's historic business district that uses photos from the Historical Society's collection. Your guide is a local history buff with a true gift for storytelling who makes Main Street's past come alive. Tickets may be purchased the day of the tour in the Museum Shop. The tour begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday on the front steps of the Northport Historical Society Museum.
